      Problem

In Jira Cloud, currently, there is no way to change the background color of a cell the same as Confluence.

There was a feature request closed as won't do, but it was related to Wiki Markup and not the new editor.

      Suggestion

Add the same option as the editor in Confluence to change the cell background color.

            Great stuff!

But how does one set the cell color with Automation? The history page on an issue does not differentiate the cell color in any way in terms of text formatting. Unlike Panels, which are color coded with

            panel:bgColor=#e3fcef

            , for example.

            Hey all 👋

I'm Rory, a Product Manager from the editor team. Thank you all for your feedback on this suggestion - we really appreciate it.

I'm excited to let you know that the ability to change cell background colours has now been shipped 🎉

In addition to this, there are also a number of other tables improvements rolling out now, including; drag-and-drop for rows and columns, table resizing, and more table alignment options.

            We hope you enjoy these!

            Thanks,

            Rory

            What I have noticed:

When You create a new issue (in creation screen) and copy and paste from Excel 365 (Web) to Jira Cloud Description field, cell colors are preserved. So it appears, the backend supports this already.

When You copy&paste into existing tickets however, colors are not applied from Excel Web.

It would be very much appreciated to get full support for this.

Why do we have to wait so many years for such a small thing?

Atlassian owns both products (Jira and Confluence). They did not acquire these products/companies. They own the code that makes this happen in Confluence. Can we not just make that happen in Jira, easily? Pretty please?

I am simply trying to colorize `diff` output manually, since there is no way to post code difference snippets into Jira.  BOTH capabilities are pretty basic.  There have been ticket after ticket in Atlassian bug requests and they keep getting closed.  Although it doesn't really work correctly, Confluence has the ability to format and colorize a diff, why not Jira?

Seems like a pretty basic and trivial thing at this point.

I came here because I want to show two categories of work in a single table using different cell colors.  Now I know the feature doesn't exist and the Jira team will likely never add it.

It's one thing to put something on an extended roadmap that takes a while to implement.  It's another to ignore the request or reject the value behind it.

Would be a good feature but im pretty sure this wont be implemented.

It took Atlassian +2 years to decide community favourite feature (multiple boards in next gen project) wasn't interesting to be implemented so im pretty confident this is going to go the same route. Few years gathering interest and regardless of interest shown this will be closed in favour of some obscure feature.

This appears to be partially implemented but in a way that is more unhelpful than helpful. When creating a new issue, I was able to set the color of cells in the first column, however in later columns, the color options are not fully shown so you can't get the colors you want. I thought, never mind - I'll open the ticket in a wider view once it is created and edit the colors there. Now I've found that you can't change colors so I have 1 cell colored and the others not - I had to delete the column and re-create it to get rid of the colors.

I can't comprehend how something like this has been open for over 2 years now, yet it's still in a "gathering interest" state. Then we have other services such as Clikcup where this feature is already present and I don't have to ask them to add new features just to wait until I am close to retirement before I can see them implementing it.

I've been using Jira and Confluence for the past 5 years, and I am so tired of it already. I can't customize my reports to make them look more professional, and that's just the tip of the iceberg, so many features already requested and little effort from Atlassian folks to implement them. They just don't care to improve this already very old and cranky system.

I guess it's just time to move to a different service, but years of working with you guys make it so difficult to start over on a different and probably better ecosystem. But I am so close to making that decision because of stuff like this.

This particular request for background colors is not even why I am so disappointed, it's a combination of getting almost always the same answer from Atlassian; "we'll create a request/suggestion just to forget about it and never come back to it again".

We want something, and we can't have it, but we keep paying for this tool year after year.

Even more strangely, you can have background colors in Jira - but only if you create the table with the desired background colors in Confluence then paste it into a Jira ticket. I found that quite by accident when I pasted a table I'd copied and couldn't figure out how to change the color from what I had pasted in...

It's a tedious workaround but it's an option. Seems absurd that the functionality is clearly there but it's just inaccessible.

That... did work... but now I can't reproduce it. I'm absolutely positive I pasted a table with background colors into a Jira ticket and the colors persisted but I can no longer prove it. I am at a loss

Strangely, it is available in Confluence and not Jira.  I would like to see this feature go forward since it helps with highlighting various details in a ticket.

I would appreciate this as it would make it easier to make better tables that are easier to interpret. I can't find this option in the confluence editor either.
