Incorrect information in Basic Search Documentation

Details

    Description

      Issue Summary

In the Documentation for Basic Search:

Quote1: In the section "Query Terms" it notes:

"If you combine multiple terms without specifying any Boolean operators, they will be joined using AND operators."

Quote 2: In the "OR" operator section it notes a conflicting point:

"The OR operator is the default conjunction operator. This means that if there is no Boolean operator between two terms, the OR operator is used."

Quote 1 States between 2 Terms a "AND" operator is used and Quote States between 2 terms a "OR" operator is used

Using the defined search criteria in the example of the documentation in the OR operator section, the second Quote is proven incorrect and the "AND" Operator is confirmed to be used instead of the "OR" operator as the Default conjunction operator.

      Environment

Cloud & Server Docs affected Tested and verified behavior on Current Cloud version and Server version 7.2, 7.13, 8.0, & 8.2

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Create 3 issues
        • Place "atlassian jira" in a text field on one issue (exe description)
        • Place "Confluence" on the second
        • Place "atlassian jira" and "confluence" on the third
      2. using the Example in the OR section search for:
        "atlassian jira" OR confluence

      3. all three issues are returned
      4. Remove the "OR" operator to align with the statement "This means that if there is no Boolean operator between two terms, the OR operator is used."

      Expected Results

      All three issues are returned

      Actual Results

Only the issue with both "atlassian jira" and "confluence" is returned as the AND operator is being used

      Suggested Correction Needed

Remove the notation under the "OR" operator section noting:

The OR operator is the default conjunction operator. This means that if there is no Boolean operator between two terms, the OR operator is used.

Then under the "AND" operator section add in:

The AND operator is the default conjunction operator. This means that if there is no Boolean operator between two terms, the AND operator is used.
