This really should be completed now.  Would be such a simple UI improvement. Can't believe we've been waiting 4 years.

Echoing another user's comment about this functionality: The need to scroll and click twice to trim the story to only remaining work every time you open a story is the definition of toil.  It doesn't take too long, and I do it mindlessly, but the number of times I do it a day adds up quickly.

If the concern is that users will no longer know there are more subtasks than are shown, displaying a summary of the subtask status with the grey/blue/green badges (similar to Scrum backlog view) to the left of the kebab menu subtasks would be a simple and familiar way to ensure the user was aware that there are hidden Done tasks while the "Hide done subtasks" is enabled.

I would love this feature as well. I have to set a filter many times per day!

This feature is working well in JIRA on-premise, once you have selected Show Open, it stays like that! Very strange they can´t get it to work in the cloud version

Hello Jira team, you guys are too slow in giving useful functionalities.  Some times it really irritates to wait getting requested functionality.

This "hide done" functionality making as default or allowing the user to set at profile level or not to change till user changes this at task level is very important for us as we will have hundreds of subtasks to which we are more interested in other than closed one.

So implement quickly.

Open status for almost two years, can´t be so hard to complete this one?

This is something our customers are complaining about for a long time already.
