The new UI layout for issue display wastes a lot of space on empty margins, which could be used for the display of the data.

Even when the screen has been maximized the ticket detail continues to confine itself to an artificial margin area.
This has been so troubling that one of our developers wrote a chrome extension to try and force one of our custom fields - "acceptance criteria" to take up the entire space.
Obviously this is a band-aid and is prone to breaking. This is a problem that needs to be fixed within the product code itself.
