Description
Summary
- When adding post functions to a workflow transition, it is possible to choose the "Copy Value From Other Field" function.
- This function allows you select the Status field as the one to be copied, which should not be allowed, as this field does not behave as a regular Jira field and such operation could result in an inconsistency in the database tables
- "Status" also represents the position of an issue in its workflow. For further information, check this documentation
- We recommend to create another post function specifically for the status change. (to apply for the case: Sub Tasks Transitions upon Parent Issues Transitioning.)
Steps to Reproduce
- Create project > Edit the workflow > Add the post-function "Copy Value From Other Field" on the Create transition
- Create a Task
- Create a subtask
- Check the subtask status
- Change the status of the Task to In Progress
- Check the subtask status again
Expected Results
- subtask status changes to In Progress
Actual Results
- subtask status remains To Do
Proposed solution
- We recommend removing the field Status from the available options
Workaround
- JIRA Misc Workflow Extensions third part app
- Automation Lite for Jira third part app (free)
