When I create a new Ticket in JIRA agile, and I fill in the description, and I wanted to hyperlink some text that I've written, I select that link text and type Command+K (the familiar OS X shortcut), and JIRA helpfully adds the square brackets and pipe mark around that text with a placeholder URL.
So far, so good.
The problem is: after the text is inserted, JIRA auto-selects the link text rather than the placeholder URL. But I seldom want to change the link text that I just typed; I usually need to add a real URL to replace the placeholder. So I posit that the editor should auto-selects the link instead. This would be much more helpful, and it would encourage me to add properly hyperlinked text rather than just pasting in URLs.
To support my position, I'd like to note that Github auto-selects the URL as I would like, and my authoring workflow with its Rich Text editor feels more fluid and less clumsy than in JIRA.
