Resolution: Fixed
NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.
Presently, when viewing a list of issues, some of which have subtasks, the subtasks are in amongst the list with the parent tasks. Further, there is no way to order the list such that the subtasks are grouped with the parent tasks. Also, it is not immediately obvious (without matching up the issue IDs) which parent task a subtask belongs to unless one opens the subtask fully.
A vast improvement would be to list subtasks within the same row as the parent task in smaller fonts, so that one can see at a glance the subtasks which make up a top-level issue.
As a side-note: we have generally been absolutely thrilled with JIRA until we began trying to use subtasks. This issue and two others that I have logged are the first which we feel are not particularly well thought-out. They are not critical to the overall operation of JIRA, but do prevent us from replacing another software product which assists in managing our agile development process. Hopefully some improvements can be made in this area (subtasks and workload estimating/tracking) so that we can use JIRA alone for all of our planning/tracking needs.
