Description
NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.
Problem Definition
When viewing the sub-task type in its parent issue view screen, you are only able to differentiate by its icons, and not the issue type name.
Suggested Solution
To be able to display the Sub-task Issue Type Name as well beside the icon.
Workaround
- Create a new Custom Field(Issue Type) for your sub-tasks. Obtain the ID for this custom field.
- Follow the guide however the order for below step is changed.(Where xxxxx the the id of your custom field.)
customfield_xxxxx, issuetype, status, assignee, progress - Once you have done the above, you would be able see that this custom field will appear in the order before the icon.
- You will need to make a copy of the existing workflow(if the workflow is shared by other different projects) to make it unique for sub-tasks only. You will also need the plugin Suite Utilities for JIRA.
- In the new workflow, locate the transition from Create Issue to Open. In this transition, add a new post-function 'Copy Field value from other Field'.
- For Source Field, select Issue Type while for Destination Field, select the Custom Field that you have created for the sub task. For option, choose 'Copy withing same issue' and add the post-function.
- Once all the above is done, each time you create a sub-task, the post function will copy the value of the Issue Type Name and copy it into the new custom Field which will now then appear in your sub task list in its parents issue view screen.
