Notifications not sent out for actions that have been triggered automatically

Steps to reproduce:

• Set up a notification to be sent out whenever an issue is closed
• Close an issue automatically via a Bitbucket merge
• The notification will not be sent out

This is a major problem for us, as nearly all issues are automatically closed via the process of merging pull requests in Bitbucket. At the moment, we can't find any way to notify interested parties via email.
