    Description

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

An extra permission is needed to allow Reporters to be able to Assign To Me, providing they are also have the Assignable User permission, but despite not having the Assign User permission.

This avoids the situation where a user can report an issue they are able to address themselves (but don't have permissions to directly assign to another user) but have to wait for the project lead (or some other appropriately permissioned user) to assign it back to the reporter.

May be addressed by some of the other related requests to do with field-level permissions in 2.7 and beyond.

      Workaround

A transition can be added that will allow assigning to current user, without requiring the Assign User Project Permissions. This is explained in further detail in Advanced workflow configuration.

      1. Edit the workflow.
      2. Add the transition 'Assign to Current User' and set the destination status as the current status.
      3. Update the Post-function to use the 'Assign to Current User'.
      4. Edit the condition so that it's only available for certain users, for example 'User is in Project Role'. This can also be done for other permissions, or groups.
      5. Add those users to the appropriate project role, group or permission.
      6. Publish the workflow.

Now users with that specific permission will be able to use the 'Assign to Current User' transition.
