      NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

      Some JIRA Admins would like to be able to configure the default screen name in JIRA wherever users are referenced (e.g Assignee/Reporter fields, Activity Stream etc. ) to display usernames rather than the default full-name being displayed.

      This flexibility will be very convenient for JIRA Admins and users in work environments and cultures where having the full name showing everywhere a user is referenced is not desirable either because, full names are too long or generally same names are just too common.
