      NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

      With SOAP, you could set a project lead via the API. This was broken and marked as wont fix here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-27264 due to the policy of no further development on the SOAP api.

      This functionality should be reintroduced in REST as there is currently no programatic way to set the project lead.
