    Description

      NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

      Currently, there are 2 ways to create a JQL filter:

      • Through the option Projects > Issues (New Issue navigator)
      • Through the Advanced search.

      When creating a JQL query through the advanced search, a Save button appears after running the query at least once. The save button will only save the JQL query and not the fields it will return. To determine the fields that will appear when anyone opens this filter, it is necessary to follow the documentation page Saving your search as a filter - specific column order:

      1. Locate the filter you wish to update.
      2. Select the filter's name to display the results. Be sure you are viewing the filter in the List view, so you see the columns.
      3. Configure the column order as desired by clicking on the column name and dragging it to the new position. Your changes are saved and will be displayed the next time you view this filter.

      This means that the saving and updating of the JQL query and the saving of the columns that will be displayed are done in 2 separate steps.

      This can be confusing and the request is to have both actions be Saved through the same Save button.

      Important note:  For the Projects > Issues (New Issue navigator), it is not possible to save the columns yet, and a feature request has been created for this: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-81122

      ------------------------------------------
      Original Description:

      Current behaviour
      1. Create/edit a filter query;
      2. Set columns to display in query results;
      3. Save the filter.

      Result: column preferences aren't saved, and the displayed result gets back to default column settings. Columns need to be edited again.

      Requested change

      Save the column configuration as well as the query.

      Workaround

      Columns can be edited after the filter is saved. Note, though, that JIRA won't recognize modifying the columns as a change to the filter, and will keep on displaying the Save As button. You'd need to make and revert a dummy change in the query too in order to have the button change to Save and store the changes made to the columns.
