At the moment when searching a user field (assignee, reporter, user customfield) you can specify - No *, Current User, Specify User, Specify Group.

It would be nice if you could search by a role... Show me all issues that are currently assigned to Testers.

We are using a lot of queries for issues assigned to testers and devs, and for this we either have to use groups in each project (against the recommendation to use roles...) or use explicitly user names in the queries, which is very hard to maintain accurately.

Being able to search by assignee or reported in specific project roles would make this work much better and easier.

This requirement will come handy when we need to generate reports and stats. Hope we could get this feature in a future release

            Hi Rodolfo

I think you don't undestand what I want. I don't want to search issues contains into a project but I want to search issues assigned to a user with a role into a project.

For instance, I want issues assigned to my project developpers but these issues can not be into my project.

We were trying to change from groups to roles but people is creating filters that require groups so we are still forced to use groups. We also would like to have this feature added to Jira.

Joseph: Filtering by project is already part of the the search filters functionality. We don't need to add it again.

Perhaps this could be added to the new JIRA Query Language?

I complete this demande by the need to search user fields by role into project (like we can do when we share dashboards or filters).
For instance, I want to seach all open issues assigned to users with developers role to project A.

To do this today, I create a groupe for each project that contains alls project developers and I find issue assigned to this group. These groups are redundant with project role definitions. For jira global administrators, he must maintain coherent groups definitions and project role definition.

As Roles are a better option then Groups, it would make sense to add search filters to specify Roles in addition to Users/Groups.
