JAVA_HOME System Variable Picked Up by JIRA Windows Installer

    XMLWordPrintable

Details

    Description

      Steps to Reproduce:

      1. Set JAVA_HOME environment system variable to any path (it may be valid or an valid path)
      2. Start Windows Installer for JIRA and complete the installation using Express setup
      3. Click Finish Button

      Expected Results:

      • The JIRA service should start and the browser should show the setup wizard.

      Actual Results:

      • The installer picks up the JAVA_HOME path instead of the bundled JRE path and uses that in the service properties (which can be seen by running tomcat7w.exe //ES//<jira service name>>). This causes the jvm.dll to be pointing to a non-existent location and the service startup fails.

      Workaround

      1. Remove the JAVA_HOME variable from the System and User environment settings
      2. Open a new command prompt in the system and manually add the service as documented here
