As a rule writer
I want the ability to manage rules using folders
So I can easily write, test, and copy rules for my projects.
Acceptance criteria:
- can create, update, and delete folders to store rules
- folders containing enabled rules cannot be deleted without a warning acknowledgement
- folders are named when created
- folders can be renamed
- folders can contain rules and other folders
- folders (and their contents) can be exported
- folders (and their contents) can be imported
- folders (and their contents) can be copied to another project
- bonus: folders can be drag-n-dropped into other folders
- bonus: folders can be associated to a label
Business case:
Labels are a helpful way to organize automation rules. The addition of folders would reduce the need to use a large number of labels for organization of large rule libraries. Folders would also solve the problem that when there are a large number of rules, it is difficult to accurately assign them to a label (far up the screen) using drag-n-drop.
Further, folders would be an excellent way for Atlassian to distribute template rules for education and re-use by rule writers. People could grab a folder of rules from an Atlassian documentation site (as JSON) and import it to speed up implementation and use.
