Product: Jira Cloud
Summary:
As a user, I need to display a chart on my Jira dashboard showing story points categorized by sprint using a saved filter as the data source. After exhausting all available native gadgets, none support this common use case.
Steps Tried:
- Two Dimensional Filter Statistics — Can cross-reference two fields (e.g., Sprint × Status), but has no Statistic Type option to sum Story Points. It only counts issue numbers.
- Pie Chart — Has a "Statistic Type" dropdown, but it only allows grouping by fields (Assignee, Status, Sprint, etc.) and counts issues. There is no option to sum a numeric field like Story Points.
- Filter Results — Only displays a flat list of issues. No charting or aggregation capability.
- Sprint Burndown / Sprint Health — Shows sprint-level data but is tied to a single board/sprint, not a saved filter. Cannot show a cross-sprint summary.
- Created vs. Resolved Chart — Tracks issue counts over time, not story points.
Expected Behavior:
Native dashboard gadgets (Pie Chart, Filter Statistics, or a new dedicated gadget) should support aggregating numeric fields (e.g., Story Points, Original Estimate) as a statistic type, allowing users to visualize metrics like "Sum of Story Points by Sprint" directly on a dashboard using a saved filter.
Current Workaround:
Users must install third-party Marketplace apps (e.g., Custom Charts for Jira, EazyBI), which may require admin permissions and/or paid subscriptions.
Impact:
Story points per sprint is one of the most fundamental agile metrics. The inability to display this natively on a dashboard forces teams to rely on external tools, reducing the value of Jira's built-in dashboard functionality.
