Atlassian requests a non-existing password when attempting Email Change for Social Login created accounts

    Description

      Issue Summary

When a user creates an Atlassian Account through one of the Social Login options (Continue with Google, Microsoft, Slack etc.) it does not request to set up a local password.

The moment an email change is done, the user is asked to confirm the new email address by entering his/her (inexisting) local password. Since the user has not set this up, it isn't possible to proceed with the email address change.

Even requesting a new password causes issues, because if the user is still logged in, it will ask the user to enter the current password to change it to a new password. The only workaround for this is to make sure the user is logged off before clicking on the button for setting up a new password.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Go to https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/email, enter the new email address and click Save Changes.
      2. An email is being sent to the new email address, click on Verify Your Email.
      3. Here it will ask to enter your local password (which doesn't exist). Instead, click on 'Having trouble logging in?'
      4. On the following screen, hit the Send Email Link button.
      5. When clicking on the password reset button on your email, you'll land on the page requesting the old password.

      Expected Results

The customer should be able to set up a new password without having to enter a non-existing old password.

      Actual Results

A non-existing old password is requested.

      Workaround

      5. Now before doing anything at all, make sure to go back to id.atlassian.com, click on your avatar on the upper-right corner and hit Log out. On the next screen hit the Log out button again.
      6. Now go to your inbox of your old email address, open the Set your new Atlassian Password email and proceed with setting up a "new" password.
      7. Once that's done, it will show you the updated email, and ask the password you just set up.
      8. You're done, your account now reflects your new email address.
