Hi!
I want to start off by saying that I really love HipChat - it's my favorite chat service my work uses. I just have one small issue...
I often want to type the sunglasses emoji, but I always type "B)" first before remembering that I am stuck in an alternate HipChat dimension where I am apparently trying to wear some weird goggles, "8)". Why is this? Every other chat service I have ever used uses "B" to signify sunglasses.
I understand that this could be confusing if someone tried to make a lettered list:
A)
B)
C)
etc., but then why not just make it "B-)"? That's still easier to parse & remember and looks much more like the emoji. Even if B) did it, people can just get used to doing lowercase lists. Plus, what if I want to make a numbered list? I'd get to 8) and then look foolish - because nobody expects 8) to be an emoji.
Ultimately, it's probably a matter of preference, and you guys are probably veering towards the "let B) be a list so that HipChat can be more professional" side, but just wanted to throw my hat (or sunglasses) in the ring.
Best,
a disGruntled Goggled Gal
