Hipchat4 for Linux doesn't integrate with system notifications

This issue belongs to an archived project. You can view it, but you can't modify it. Learn more

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

Hipchat4 introduces new notifications that no longer integrate with system notifications in KDE (I suppose that it is also the case for other desktop environments). Because of that hipchat's notification doesn't follow styling guidelines, behaviour (for example there is no history of them in KDE's notification center etc). They look like they were imported from different world.

Please add an option to use system provided notifications.

Stride and Hipchat Cloud End of Life: Just over 90 days away

We recently announced that we would be discontinuing our team messaging tools, Stride and Hipchat, and will therefore be closing out all related feature requests and open issues. The end of life date for Stride and Hipchat Cloud is February 15, 2019. Until that time, we will only issue product updates for security issues or critical bugs.

If you are an existing Hipchat Server or Data Center customer and feel like this issue has been closed in error, please contact support to let us know.

Our recommended migration path is to Slack - you can read more about this and other options at Stride and Hipchat Cloud End of Life: Just over 90 days

Guys, there's a vote option for each ticket (not that Atlassian will bother to do anything with this issue though), "+1" messages are only distracting.

            +1 for this feature!!!

Graphics drivers should be irrelevant. This request is about using native system notifications, which means passing the message to the desktop shell, and letting the desktop shell display the notification in whatever way it usually displays notifications.

If HipChat used native system notifications, HipChat wouldn't have to draw the notifications itself, and so it wouldn't have to worry about graphics drivers.

            can confirm with:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 530 (rev 06)

            Hi all,

            To add some information:

The notifications work and are visible if we are using a nVidia card with the drivers installed. However, using a

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Skylake Integrated Graphics (rev 06)

with i915 does not (transparent notifications).

it would indeed be much better to use libnotify.
on my desktop i can barely see the notification, my colleague doesn't get any at all.

I have been asked by HipChat support to chime in here:

I tried using Gnome Web, but this didn't work for me. This prompted me to create a bug report at https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171852

In the meantime I contacted HipChat support who directed me here. Indeed, the "accept third-party cookies" workaround resolves the issue for me.

2 workarounds to get the HipChat web app running as an application separate from your web browser, with native notifications:

            • HipChat Electron, an unofficial wrapper application.
            • The HipChat web app works in Gnome Web (Epiphany), but only if you accept third-party cookies. In Preferences, on the Privacy tab, change Cookies to “Always accept”. You can then choose Save As Web Application from the menu.

Any updates on this issue since your last message in July 2016 @tdavenport ?

This is really annoying to have notifications that are not at the same place, don't have the same background than the others.

Notifications are barely readable when using KDE Plasma 5. I would also prefer to use libnotify instead of native HipChat notifications.

I currently use http://meetfranz.com/ which uses the web version, but uses libnotify notifications until hipchat4 allows libnotify notifications.

            Same thing here.

I cannot use hipchat 4 as long as there is not way to use libnotify for the notification.
So until it's fixed I'm stuck with the old hipchat.

The 2.x version had the ability to choose between hipchat notifications and libnotify. I'd really love to see this feature added back in.

Well I like the hipchat notifications but it has couple of problems:

            • The position of the notification is incorrect in case of dual monitors that are not of the same resolution
            • it always appear on the main monitor not the active one
            • When you click on the notification it opens hipchat but does not jump to the correct room and at the same time the counter on the room is cleared which makes me lost because I don't remember who was talking where

While Hipchat 4 is qt5 app it shouldn't be a great effort use libnotify and give people choice what kind of notifications to use.
