Video call runs with a buzzing noise in the background if there is a Bluetooth device connected to the Machine. The problem seems to be Macbook Air specific, we've made multiple tests with the final user on more than one machine, and the problem was replicable. The buzzing noise is only gone once the Bluetooth device (Plantronics Voyager Edge for Mic and Speakers) is disconnected.
After diving a little deeper on this with the video architects we found that this is actually a problem on the WebRTC layer in Chrome, since HipChat basically embeds Chrome to provide video support. In this case, we've also filed a bug directly with the WebRTC team: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=727392
Environment
- HipChat Macbook Air
- MacOS Sierra 10.12.4
- HipChat 4.29
- Chrome 58.0.3029.110
- Bluetooth device - Plantronics Voyager Edge
Steps to reproduce
- After setting up the specific environment, connect the Bluetooth device to the Macbook.
- Start a video call in HipChat.
Expected results
The video call runs fine and the audio can be heard perfectly.
Actual results
Video call runs with a buzzing noise in the background because of the Bluetooth device connected.
Workaround
A viable workaround would be changing the HipChat audio settings from Bluetooth to the computer default mic/speakers as this should end the buzzing noise.
