Description
Summary
When upgrading HipChat Server, installation of the 'hc-chef-repo' package fails. The upgrade reports success regardless.
This could potentially cause a wide variety of problematic behavior. Reported so far:
- the 'punjab' service fails to start with the following log entry due to its initialization script failing to update properly:
/hipchat/punjab/current/vendor/virtualenv/bin/twistd: option --facility not recognized
Environment
- Upgrade to HipChat Server v1.4.3, deployed as an OVA in VMware
Steps to Reproduce
Upgrade HipChat Server
Expected Results
Upgrade fully installs all packages correctly.
Actual Results
Upgrade fails to install 'hc-chef-repo' with the following error occurring in the /var/log/hipchat/update.log file:
ERROR Command '['apt-get', 'upgrade', '-y', '--force-yes', 'hc-chef-repo']' returned non-zero exit status 100
Workaround
- Log into the HipChat Server terminal/command-line interface
- Manually reinstall 'hc-chef-repo' with the following commands:
sudo dont-blame-hipchat dpkg --configure -a apt-get install --reinstall hc-chef-repo cs exit
