Allow Mail Server configuration through JNDI location (+TLS for connections)

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

Confluence and JIRA allow Mail Server configurations through a JNDI location of a javax.mail.Session object to use.
I think that you should consider this option for Crowd as well.

Also, in Confluence and JIRA this is the only way to use TLS for the SMTP server connections; this does not seem to be possible in Crowd at all.

Awesome! Thanks, Eric! I'll give it a shot.

            Mykel,

We did find a very hacky work-around. Searching online I found http://www.jsmtpd.org/site/ which is a little Java based SMTP daemon with a plugin API. We wrote our own delivery plugin that always connects to our SMTP+TLS based service and delivers mail that way.

I've posted the plugin code and a diff from our version of jsmtpd to the one downloaded from the site: https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/dalquist/web/JA-SIG/jsmtpd/ I can't really provide support for any of that code but it is working for us to allow Crowd to send email.
