      Issue Summary

In Crowd version 6.2.0, there is an issue on the Mail Configuration page. After updating the settings, any further attempts to send a test email do not succeed. Despite this, the ability of Crowd to send emails remains unaffected.
      Instance Details

      Crowd Version: 6.2.0
Previous Crowd Version: 5.3.1 (migration was performed from this version)
SMTP Server Requirements: The server requires a username and password for authentication. Tests have been conducted with both encrypted and unencrypted connections.

      Investigation Done

The issue has been replicated in a local environment, confirming that the problem is not isolated to a specific instance.

      Steps to Reproduce

      Loom video: https://www.loom.com/share/6e34f60964d949f19c2c76d7969f0512

      1. Install Crowd version 6.2.0.
      2. Navigate to the "Mail Configuration" page.
      3. Set up the SMTP settings for the first time.
      4. Click "Send Test Email" to verify the setup. The email should be sent successfully.
      5. Click the "Update" button at the bottom of the "Mail Configuration" page.
      6. Attempt to "Send Test Email" again. The test email will fail to send.
      7. Navigate away from the "Mail Configuration" page to another page within the application.
      8. Return to the "Mail Configuration" page.
      9. Attempt to "Send Test Email" once more. The test email will fail again.

      Actual Results

After updating the SMTP settings on the "Mail Configuration" page, any attempt to send a test email fails. This failure persists even after navigating away from and returning to the page.

      Expected Results

The test email should successfully send every time the "Send Test Email" button is clicked, regardless of whether the SMTP settings have been updated or not. This functionality is observed in Crowd version 5.3.6, where the test email consistently works after updates.

      Workaround

Its possible to use a SMTP relay without authentication to circumvent this issue.

      Additional Notes

The issue seems to be directly linked to the update action on the "Mail Configuration" page.
The problem persists with both encrypted and unencrypted SMTP connections.
This does not affect the CROWD capability to send e-mails whatsoever.
This behavior was not present in the previous version (5.3.1, 5.3.6), indicating a potential regression in version 6.2.0.
