    Description

      Problem Definition

CROWD showing error messages for end users in raw format received directly from LDAP directory even though the common error code is in the message. Seeing the error message is good for the administrator, but for end users, it can be confusing in some cases.

      Business case

If the user entered the password which doesn't satisfy the LDAP complexity rules he/she will receive LDAP error 53 with part of stack trace:

As a result, the end user confused about the real root cause and create a support request for every occurrence. So it put additional load both on internal help desk as well as on Atlassian Support.

      Suggested Solution

Add human readable messages for Common User Management Errors together with a short link to the documentation (to simplify troubleshooting).

      Workaround

Direct the internal helpdesk to Atlassian KB: Common User Management Errors
