In the admin console one can see a list of all groups from the LDAP Directory, but only "Groupname".
But there is no column with the "description" of the group.

This description is available from LDAP. It should be displayed in Confluence too, because often group names might not be speaking for themselves.

This will help the confluence administrator to assign rights.
