      Currently, Crowd supports the PLAIN connection only.

      The workaround to secure connections would be to use SSL (see how to improve performance here)

      It depends on the DIGEST-MD5 support in SpringLDAP (available in 1.3.1): http://jira.springframework.org/browse/LDAP-173
