The most normal way to create a directory is to fill in all of the details for the directory, then click "test connection", then if that works, click "update" to actually create the directory. Unfortunately, the "password" field is blanked out by the "test connection" button, meaning that I created several directories with no password set (which led to a cryptic error; see CWD-1785) and it took me a while of fumbling before I learned that that was the problem with the directories I created.
It seems that it would be most straightforward if the "test connection" button left a value in the "password" field if there was one in it when the button was clicked (i.e. for a new directory or a changing password).
Cheers!
