The aim is to provide a REST API for Crowd.

The reasons for this are to make it simpler for administrators to configure and talk to the crowd console either as an "application" or as a "user".

Perhaps they have scripts that create users across multiple systems in their organisation; it is easier to use a REST API than it is to use the SecurityServerClient's SOAP API.

Unfortunately, we're going to have to slip this to 2.0, due to some issues we found with the frameworks we wanted to use. We believe we've sorted through most of those issues, but it's now too close to release to put it in.
