Problem
Image captions included in Confluence Cloud exports are lost upon import into Confluence Data Center. Additionally, editing the page containing the caption completely removes any references to the caption.
Steps to Reproduce
- Add images to a test page in Confluence cloud
- Add a caption to the image and save the page
- Confirm caption is present beneath image on the page
- Perform a space export for the space containing the test page
- Import the space export into a Confluence Data Center instance
- Review the page for the image caption
Expected Results
The image on the imported page contains the caption
Actual Results
The image doesn't visibly display any caption. Viewing the storage format shows the image caption stored within <p> tag beneath the image.
- If you make any edits to the page, this <p> will be removed in the next update. This will completely remove any lingering reference to the caption!
Workaround
Notes
Confluence Cloud stores the image captions this way by default:
<p>Image Caption</p> <ac:image ac:align="center" ac:layout="center" ac:original-height="1797" ac:original-width="2696" ac:custom-width="true" ac:alt="806769c8-421f-4e16-bc79-352a37ce159c.png" ac:width="760"><ri:attachment ri:filename="806769c8-421f-4e16-bc79-352a37ce159c.png" ri:version-at-save="1" /><ac:caption> <p>This was super fun!</p></ac:caption></ac:image> <p /> <p>And some more words after this. </p>
However, Confluence Data Center uses the ac:title attribute for storing image captions:
<p>Image Caption</p> <p><ac:image ac:align="center" ac:title="This was super fun!" ac:alt="806769c8-421f-4e16-bc79-352a37ce159c.png" ac:width="760"><ri:attachment ri:filename="806769c8-421f-4e16-bc79-352a37ce159c.png" /></ac:image></p> <p>And some more words after this.</p>
