Issue Summary
The Symbol Menu displays the search option in English, even when the default language setting has been changed to German. When a customer searches using the German keyword "größer" (which translates to "greater" in English), no results are found. However, searching with the English term "greater" yields results.
This is reproducible on Data Center: (yes) / (no)
Steps to Reproduce
1.Change the language settings by going to Profiles >> Settings >> select German.
Alternatively, you can navigate to General Configuration >> Languages >> Change Language Settings >> select German.
2. Create a page, then check the Symbol menu. (Note: All options within this menu are displayed in English only.)
Expected Results
Symbols menu should show in User choosen language .In this case its German.
Actual Results
As the symbols are still listed in English, users will not be able to search using German words. In this case customer is searching with a german word "größer" but not getting any results . However when we search with the english translation of this word "greater " results are showing with greater symbol (>).
I have setup Confluence version 8.5.18, matching the customer's setup, and changed the Default Language setting in the User profile to German. When searching with "größer" in the Symbol menu, no results appear, whereas searching with "greater" does provide options for symbols.
I also tested this in Confluence version 9.2.0 and noticed the same issue.
Interestingly, in Confluence version 7.19.30, the Symbol menu is structured differently. It doesn’t display names for the symbols; instead, you can select symbols directly.
Workaround
Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available
