      Atlassian Update – 6th October 2023

      Hi everyone,

This is Charlie from the Confluence team. I'm pleased to let you know that we have released support for the forward slash command to access macro suggestions in the Confluence Data Center 8.6 release.

In recent years, the forward slash ‘/' command has become a recognizable and popular shortcut across software apps. To make switching between workplace apps easier, we’ve adopted this shortcut in Confluence 8.6. Use the command to activate the macro suggestions (also known as macro autocomplete) to help you find and insert macros quickly while editing.

You can already use '{' to activate the same menu in Confluence Data Center. We just figured, why not both?

      Kind regards,

      Charlie

      Background

Confluence Data Center (DC) and Confluence Cloud use different keyboard shortcuts to access the macro suggestion/picker. Confluence Data Center uses the { keyboard shortcut, whereas Confluence Cloud uses the / shortcut.

This common workflow accesses powerful capabilities during content creation. Confluence DC power users who are used to the { macro shortcut are unable to use this shortcut following migration to Confluence Cloud, causing frustration.

      Suggestion

In addition to the existing { keyboard shortcut, Confluence Data Center should support the / shortcut for macro suggestions. This will help build familiarity with this shortcut for future Cloud-migrated users, and follow more common macro/app shortcuts used in other software such as Slack.
