Problem Definition and Why this is important

In Confluence Data Center, we minimize the impact of common memory or CPU intensive actions by handling them in an external process pool (a seperate pool of processes, managed by Confluence). These processes (also known as sandboxes) can crash or be terminated, and will be restarted automatically by Confluence, without affecting the Confluence application itself.

The external process pool currently handles the following actions:

• Document conversion (thumbnail generation for file previews)
• Exporting a space to PDF

As of now, document conversion with sandbox is only being done for Word and Office documents viewed using the Office Word and Office Excel macros, as outlined in the documentation below:

We are suggesting to enable HTML conversion with sandbox for Office Powerpoint and PDF documents when embedded under view file macro as well to improve performance within the application itself.
