Problem
XLSX file content is not extracted for display in Confluence search results.
Environment
The issue has been initially reproduced on Confluence Data Center 7.10.0 and 7.19.0.
Steps to Reproduce
- Create a Confluence page
- Edit the page to drag and drop/attach the file TestExcel.xlsx to the page and preview it. You see that it contains the string TestExcelString
- Perform a global search on the string TestExcelString
Expected Results
- The global search on the string TestExcelString doesn't return the attachment as a result
Actual Results
- We would expect, upon successful extraction, that the Global Search on string TestExcelString returns the attachment as a result
Workaround
- Save the Excel .xlsx in a .xls format instead (example attached TestExcel.xls) and the attachment content will appear in the search results
Notes
According to Confluence Official Documentation Search in Confluence 7.19
We should be able to look for such content in the search as we mention the support of Excel file types (regardless of specific xls or xlsx format):
[...]
When you enter a search term, Confluence looks for content in all spaces (including personal spaces), pages, mail, personal profiles, and space descriptions. It also looks at the content of some attached file types (Word, Text, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, and HTML).
