Presently, there is no "fall-back" available when deleted entire spaces - i.e. once you remove a space it is deleted permanently.
It would be helpful to have the "trash" feature like with deleting individual pages, so that Spaces which are removed can be restored with ease.
Ivan has suggested the following procedure:
1. Once a space is deleted, change the flag in the database table for that Space to "deleted"
2. Keep the Space in the table, but inactive.
3. Only delete the space permanently if the user "Purges" the trash.
4. Change the flag from "deleted" back to normal status, should the space be restored.
5. Log the activity of deletion; i.e. Log the timestamp for when the space was deleted, and by whom.
6. Create a log file to log all this activity.
