      Issue Summary

When using the Confluence Analytics tool, if you count the total number of views that are reported for a given time period, and then count the number of views for that same period of time but requested in sections, the total number of views will not be equal.

For example, if you view the analytics for views in space for two weeks, then you look at the views for the weeks by themselves (1-week period), the report for both weeks will contain less total views in the report, than the report for the individual weeks.

      Steps to Reproduce

      • Step 1: In a space that is regularly viewed and contains a good number of days with non-zero views, observe the page analytics for a given space over a period of time. You can make counting easier by exporting to CSV and then using a spreadsheet program to sum the views for the whole period.
      • Step 2: Export or observe the results for the same period of time, but request the period in chunks. Count the sum of views among all the collected chunks, and then compare that to the export or data from the long period export.

      Expected Results

The total views for the given period will sum to the same value as those views collected in smaller segments.

      Actual Results

The longer period will contain a smaller number of total views. This is because when grouping view analytics by week, Confluence treats a week as a 7-day period beginning on Mondays. If a single day from an additional weekly period is included in the date range filter, the entirety of that additional week will be included in the aggregated view count. This can result in an unanticipated inflation of the analytics for the shown period.

For example, when grouping by week, if the date range selected is from day 1 on a Monday, through to day 8 (the following Monday), the 2nd week period will be included in the calculations (day 8 to day 14).

      Workaround

Accurate page analytics can be determined by:

      1. Grouping by day and adding the values up for the required time period.
      2. Grouping by week and ensuring that the period only starts on Mondays and ends on Sundays.
