Description
Issue Summary
If the Word document you import to Confluence contains formatting/symbols that align with Confluence Wiki Markup, then they are converted to the wiki markup value once the document is imported to Confluence.
This is reproducible on Data Center: Yes
Steps to Reproduce
- Create a Word document with this text:
# Just a comment
# Not a numbered list
# This is an IP address with wildcards 10.*.*.* - Import the Word document to Confluence.
Expected Results
The Confluence page should display text exactly as in the Word document.
Actual Results
The Confluence page formats the text in accordance with Confluence Wiki Markup.
1. Just a comment
2. Not a numbered list
3. This is an IP address with wildcards 10...*
You'll notice that # gets converted to a numbered list and asterisks are used to denote bold text. It causes some loss of data because the same data can't be interpreted once the Word document is imported.
Note
This appears to be an expected behaviour for instances running Confluence 6.x versions, as there is a warning included in Confluence 6's Import a Word document to Confluence documentation:
If your document contains characters that are the same as Confluence wiki markup (for example square brackets, hashes etc) these characters may be automatically converted to their wiki markup value when you import your document, or wrapped in a wiki markup macro to preserve the formatting.
This issue, however, is still reproducible on Confluence 7 although the warnings have been removed in the latest documentation.
Workaround
Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available
