disabling autocomplete entirely is not an option, as there are several useful autocomplete scenarios.

I don't use emoticons, my team doesn't, and most of our organization doesn't.  We do, however, like to use colons.  I, and others, constantly have to backspace and erase the darn things.  Please don't force 'fun' features down my throat.
