Confluence implements log4j 1.x as the logging administration library.
This version has reached its EOL for quite some time as highlighted in http://logging.apache.org/log4j/1.2/manual.html.
Suggested Solution
Upgrade log4j to version 2.x
log4j 2 is also known to have lots of performance improvements as described in https://logging.apache.org/log4j/2.x/performance.html
