Issue Summary
Duplicated Companion App autostart entries on the Windows startup programs list may occasionally stop the Companion App from starting properly after system start-up. Companion App still works and can be manually started afterwards.
What causes the duplicated startup entries to appear is still unknown, and disabling the automatic start from the Companion App settings does not remove the startup entry, although the Windows Registry still lists a single entry for the Companion App.
Steps to Reproduce
- Simply start up the system with the Companion App automatic start configured in the application itself
Expected Results
Companion App would start normally.
Actual Results
Due to the nature of this issue, it will only appear when the startup entry for the Companion App was duplicated somehow, with root causes that are still unknown. If the current machine is affected by this issue, it will yield the following results:
- Starting the system will yield an error related to starting the Companion App
- Companion App will not start automatically, but can be started manually
- Checking the startup programs menu, there are two entries for the Companion App, but disabling the automatic start from the App itself will not remove the second entry
Workaround
Since the second autostart entry was added to Windows by mistake, it's possible to identify it and disable it manually, to prevent the issue from happening:
- Disable the Companion App's "Launch on Startup" option
- Open the system's autostart list, and Disable (right click > "Disable") the remaining autostart entry for the Companion App
- Enable "Launch on Startup" again, which will add the second (working) autostart entry
Closing as this cannot be reproduced or determine the root cause.
