Atlassian status as of September 2019

Trackback enables Confluence to send and receive trackback pings when pages are linked to. Referrers appear on the Page Information view of a page, and list clicks from external websites to the page. Trackback is no longer widely used in modern websites, and because it relies on accepting unauthenticated requests to a particular URL, is a spam vector.

We removed the trackback and referrers features completely in Confluence 7.0.

Feel free to comment on this issue if this change will have a significant impact on your Confluence site.

[CONFSERVER-57611] Plans to remove trackback and referrers

            Hi,

There is a post in Atlassian Community with the same problem, and at the end they present a possible solution.

            https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-questions/trackbackRdf-Code-showing-up-on-pages/qaq-p/1286515

One of the solution it will be to comment this line in Edit Layoud, go to > General configuration> Layouts > Page Layout > edit > search the line "#trackbackRdf ($trackbackUtils.getContentIdentifier($page) $page.title $trackbackUtils.getPingUrl($page)) and  add # at the beggining of line.

            Result: ##trackbackRdf ($trackbackUtils.getContentIdentifier($page) $page.title $trackbackUtils.getPingUrl($page))

If you do it, it will be affected in all pages because you do it in admin panel.

I have managed not to be on screen.

I hope it's useful for you.

            Regards,

            Hi echan@atlassian.com
            On 7.1.0 our pages shows

            #trackbackRdf ($trackbackUtils.getContentIdentifier($page) $page.title $trackbackUtils.getPingUrl($page))

I have tried to disable from UI - no luck. As it's hidden from admin panel.
Could you provide to advice, please?

Also, I see many fresh Confluence in internet has the same problem.

            Hi Emily,

Thanks for the reply. This was my mistake as I didn't find the macro in our template initially but have since and removed it.

            Cheers,Dennis

Happy to hear that you're testing on our beta!

We did remove the velocity macro “#trackbackRdf” due to this issue. Kindly try updating your template by removing this macro.

            Cheers, Emily.

            Hi,
We're currently testing out the Confluence 7 beta with our app Refined for Confluence (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/15231/refined-structure-and-theme-confluence)

On the bottom of space pages we're seeing the following:

            #trackbackRdf ($trackbackUtils.getContentIdentifier($page) $page.title $trackbackUtils.getPingUrl($page))

It appears just above any potential likes-and-labels-container present.

Since it's a theming app, we do have custom decorators but this is the only issue we're seeing. Is there potentially some rogue velocity macros left in the beta1 released that will be removed or will we need to do anything on our end to solve this?

            Cheers,

            Dennis

davidpezet1, no, incoming and outgoing links will still appear on the Page Information page.

Will this affect the Incoming Links and Outgoing Links Page Information?

While this feature is not heavily used by our end users, it provides IT Administrators visibility into the Hot Referrers and any websites that link to specific pages in our Confluence site. If the Confluence URL were to change, the information captured by the Trackback feature is useful for updating the Hot Referrers/websites with the new URL.
