Make adding a child page trigger an e-mail to people subscribed to the parent

    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Currently the addition of a child page does not trigger a page-change notification to people subscribed to the parent. It would be nice if this could be considered worthy of notification.

      • A new page version is not needed, but a special "Child added to page" mail would/could be nice.
      • Only the addition of direct child pages should cause a notification to avoid notification insanity.
      • Something like this might be a good user option to add - "Consider creation of direct child-pages worthy of change notification"

[CONFSERVER-5728] Make adding a child page trigger an e-mail to people subscribed to the parent

Hi All, This can now be achieved using the ScriptRunner for Confluence app (v6.5.0). Users can choose to watch a parent page and all of its descendants and when there are new pages added into that tree, they’ll automatically watch those too. Hope this helps!

We have right now a problem which could be solved if this feature would be implemented. Thanks in advance

This is the second company I've been working for using Confluence (the first > 5000 person company and the second a < 50 person company) in both cases this feature would have been incredibly useful, the hierarchical page structure that confluence provides give a natural way of grouping things, and what seemly is missing is to get notifications on a hierarchy not just on a page. I would have loved to have this feature years ago.

It maybe worth checking out the Descendent Notification Plugin. We noticed this as one of the great side effects of installing it. It is configurable in the preferences if you want to send notifications for child pages added to a page you are watching. It is also somewhat separated from the page family feature mentioned in CONF-2853, in that even if you choose to disable/hide the button that allows page families, it still will allow notifications for the creation of child pages. We had noticed this because our theme hid the button, but we were still receiving the extra notifications.

request that this is implemented simply, without having to worry about more complicated implementations discussed in CONF-2853

This shouldn't be too hard to do, and would be a useful feature. I don't think we need to worry about the preference, though, just make it always happen.
