LDAP provider allows to operate on profile only in the ReadOnly mode. But at the same time there are no instructions on the Confluence settings for the correct parameters displaying from LDAP (e.g.: the user Email).
I consider that the best way is to store (edit) the following attributes in LDAP:
      1) email - the attribute is used by the different applications interacting with LDAP, as a result it is advisable to store this attribute only in LDAP (and not duplicate it to the Confluence base)
      2) FullName - it is desirable to use the FullName parameter instead of the combination of the Name and LastName fields when displaying the user name. The user name should be presented in the native language (but it is not always English and a name may include more than two words).
      3) For Jira, it is desirable to use the language parameter not from the inner base but from LDAP so as it may be set up not from the administrator panel.
All the other attributes are stored and edited in the application base.
