Does confluence server support windows authentication?

Dear Confluence team,

I want to know if your Confluence Server (Self-hosted) supports windows authentication.

In simple words, we want our users to automatically login to the home page of confluence as soon as they are on our domain, and authenticated through their windows account. We don't want to have them enter a separate user and password for logging in to confluence. 

Could you describe how the current authentication scheme works for confluence?

I searched through documentation, faq, community forums, etc but couldn't find an aswer to this question.
