      Summary

When selecting a set of vertical rows or cells, merging does not work in Confluence 6.7.0 or higher
This worked in previous versions of Confluence.
Merging two cells horizontally does still work.

      Environment

      • Confluence Server 6.7.0

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Create a table
      2. Select cells on top of one another
      3. Click to merge
      4. Nothing happens

      Expected Results

Above are the results from 6.4.0

      Actual Results

Above are the results in 6.7.0

      Workaround

If a numbering column is used, first remove the numbering column using the button in the toolbar, then merge the cells, then add the numbering column.

            "Cannot reproduce"?!?!

This bug still exists in the latest LTS. You can easily reproduce it by trying to select the cells with ctrl+click or shift+click - the cells WILL NOT get selected.

Workaround is to drag over cells with the mouse button clicked, without any keyboard keys pressed.

            Please fix!

I have the same issue but only in Firefox. In Chrome it worked as expected, without any workaround.

This issue is still present in our Company's internally hosted version of Confluence at 7.13.x.

Nis Korsgaard's workaround works but an easier way to get this to work for me is to do a highlighting trick.

Highlight one additional cell when making your selection... Then reduce back your desired number of cells before merging.

For instance, I wanted to merge 2 vertical cells. When I was highlighting, I always selected an additional cell (3 cells total), then dragged it back to 2 cells and then merged.

I don't know why this works but it does.

I ended up here with what i though was the same issue in version 7.4.4. It was however not very reproducible and i now found the difference being the mode of selection.

By the attached gifs you can see that the "shift + click" (thick blue borders in selection) does not work, while drag select does (blue fill in cell). I know this is not the issue in the above bug report but i think it can help others ending up here.

EDIT: i do not have permissions to attach the gifs so i hope the explanation will do : )

Funny how this issue is closed as it obviously is still present. I have the same problem in 7.8.0.
