Prevent changed Jira Gadget URL from causing threads to stick in Confluence

If Confluence uses external Jira Gadget subscriptions and the Jira URL changes, hung threads can result in Confluence which can cause Confluence to hang.

Would it be possible to update the Confluence code which initiates the connection with Jira gadgets to simply try the Jira gadget URL a limited number of times for a limited time period so that the thread doesn't wait for long periods of time while trying to connect with Jira?
