Show an error message when user tries to reorder pages without having permission to do so

    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

When a user tries to reorder a page tree alphabetically and doesn't have the proper permissions in one or more child pages to do so (that means, there is an "Edit page" restriction somewhere in the child pages), the UI will reorder the page tree within the "Reorder pages" tab and won't show any type of error or warning message. HAR file will show that server returned a "403 Forbidden" error. When the user refreshes the page or goes to the Space main page, page tree remains with the original order.

The suggestion would be to add some error or warning message in this specific scenario.

Even though, user have all permission (Page/ Space), but still re-order didn't worked for restricted pages.

Uploaded a screenshot to help with "verification".  Also, I think the UI giving erroneous feedback to the user, making them think the sorting worked when it in fact did not would constitute this being a Bug and not a Suggestion.

I had this occur due to Page Editing restrictions. The Reorder UI re-sorts the pages, but the request to the backend failed with a 403 error.

Removing the restrictions at the parent level (which were inheriting down), fixed the issue.

There should be UI feedback to the user to say that the re-order failed, and why it did.
