      From Gregor on https://support.atlassian.com/browse/CQS-37:

Are there any plans to make this space-specific. As for our organisation (and I'm guessing may more) we are using the wiki for many different projects. So it would be logical to have questions for certain spaces / topics / groups only - not visible to others. So far every question would be visible to anybody else.

@Katie - seems to be the case. Plz vote on https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CQ-1802

So essentially... none of the requests were "resolved" just closed and aggregated into a single ticket were everyone is again asking for the same thing... a simple toggle to allow privacy based on the space the question is mapped into.

jan.magnusson thanks for the context - very helpful indeed. I've raised a suggestion for this CQ-1802.

g.graat1 we are tracking that suggestion here: CQ-1784.

ekim - the top bar also shows questions that are in Spaces which you have access to. Think of it just like the Confluence dashboard - you see all content which you have access to across all spaces.

Everyone - please be mindful adding more comments on this ticket as there are over 60+ watchers (meaning 60 emails are going out every time you add a comment!) If you've got further suggestions, please just raise one directly by pressing "Create issue" above or feel free to email me: sherif at atlassian dot com.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

The top menu bar has a questions option that's associated with global questions. The left side bar is associated with space questions. Can your users use these for appropriate question scoping?

Although I appreciate the ability to associate a question with a space, I now experience a problem with it. I have added a "Ask a question" button to a space as described in the documentation. When I create a question with this button, it is now automatically associated with the space in which the button resides. That does not make sense in my case, I would simply like to associate the question with the "global" questions. Is there any way of achieving this?

@smansour I essentially agree with what you are saying. I also don't think that questions people have are always easily directed to a particular space. That said, there definitely are concerns among managers here, that the wrong information is shared with the wrong audience. And, as you say, most questions are not easily classified, so there WILL be mistakes if we leave the global option on. Somehow we would like to limit visibility for questions and answers posted in Questions to a particular audience, rather than a space or have them globally visible.
In this particular instance, the whole company uses confluence. Access to R&D spaces is limited to R&D, but we have spaces for each department. We would like to handle question visibility on R&D level and not per space, so that questions posted by R&D members can be read and answered by any and all in R&D but not seen by anyone else. Basically we would like something in between space visibility and global visibility.

natalie.swallow Thanks for the feedback. We don't have a way of doing this today, I've raised CQ-1798 so we can track that suggestion there.

jan.magnusson at this stage you can't limit the use of global questions. This was by design to help increase adoption. Whilst we can see the benefits of asking user to pick a space every time, we believe the benefits of not doing this is far greater. We've found that the majority of time end-users don't actually know what team or space to direct their questions to. In fact a lot of the time users aren't even aware of what spaces exist other the one or two they work in the most. Enforcing a user to pick a space for every question requires the user to know what teams and space structure exist which would in-turn cause a big barrier to asking the question in the first place as they don't want to feel silly directing the question to the wrong audience.

Hope that makes sense. In saying all this, we aren't set this way. We will continue to monitor feedback around this topic and have noted yours internally.

Is there any way that you can limit the use of global questions? I would basically like to limit questions for users so that they can only direct questions to spaces to which they can contribute so that questions follows the rest of confluence with regards to information you can read and write. Having to remember to direct questions to the correct space seems to be a risk.

Thanks, Atlassian team!!! This will be extremely helpful for us. Are there any plans to enable us to associate past questions with a space? I ask because we have a space where we have been managing keeping all questions from that space contained by using a specific question topic, so we can pull all the space questions via the questions list macro on the main page based on that topic. We would like to make all of those questions (nearly 500) now associated with that space. It doesn't seem like that is possible at this point. Can you advise?

Update: Okay, so when testing in our test instance, it does appear you can individually edit each question and associate it with a space, but a bulk change based on previous label would be extremely helpful. We heavily use the questions list macro as well though, and it does not appear that when asking a question from the questions list macro embedded on a page that it will automatically associate that question with the space. This would be the preference.

            Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your patience and feedback with this feature request. We're pleased to announce that in the latest version of Confluence Questions (2.0) you can now ask questions privately which addresses this issue.

When asking a question you can direct it to a space which inherits any space permissions and respects space watch notifications.

You can also browse questions within a space as well as globally and only see the questions you have access to.

For Cloud customers you've been auto-upgraded. For Server customers the latest version of Confluence Questions is available from the Atlassian Marketplace.

            Happy Knowledge Sharing!
