Allow JIRA calendars to select custom date fields from project

    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

We had this request a few times at Summit.

A lot of customers want to map out custom date fields form JIRA into Confluence. E.g. they might have a "EAP Date, BETA Date, QA Due Date etc...".

Ideally, the JIRA calendar should allow you to map out custom date fields, not just issue due dates.

When using custom date fields on Team Calendar... if you try to subscribe outlook they don´t show... only using Issue Created Date.

            Hi Sherif,

I currently care about two dates for our blog schedule: Due Date and Publish Date

I'd like to create a calendar that pulls from one or more projects (JQL) and displays items by either date, or by both. In some cases, I'd like to see both dates on the calendar so I know when something is due and when it's actually going live.

We use the same concept for emails. They need to be completed by one date and then sent on another date.

It's the JIRA "Original Estimate" field (don't think it's a custom one...) that we use to specify the duration and the "Due Date" field that specifies the end date.

You are right - what I would like Team Calendar to show is a bar that spans multiple days in the month mode that shows every day a task is to be worked on - exactly like in MS Outlook Calendar.

@Andrew - thanks for that info. It sounds like you are more interested in capture a gantt-chart like interface for Team Calendars (See: TEAMCAL-127). This specific issue would just simply plot a desired date of the issue (e.g. Due date).

So it sounds like you don't have a "Start and end date", but rather you have an "end date" and duration - which is a custom field? Or do you use the "Remaining estimate" field in JIRA? or the work logged in JIRA? (Trying to work out how specifically you set the duration)

I use JIRA issues to assign project tasks to the team. We have a JIRA project for this year's projects (we do ~100 each year) and use components within the project for each of the individual projects.

We then create JIRA issues in a special schema that represent the tasks of that project e.g. "Create Functional Specification", "Project Management" etc.

Each of these tasks has a duration measured in days.

What I want is to be able to show that task in the Team Calendar so it appears every day the task runs.

What I can set to help this is a) the duration of the task e.g. 5 days and b) the due date - the date by which the task must be done.

If I have a JIRA issue therefore with a Due date of this Friday 21 October and its duration is three days I'd like Team Calendar to show the JIRA issue title and and code (as it does now) on Wed, Thu and Fri this week so that anyone looking at the calendar can see that this task is happening on every one of the three days.

            Make sense?

Hello everyone watching this issue. We are thinking about tackling this problem in the short-term roadmap.

I'm interested to hear from you. Some questions that would help us:
            1. How many custom dates do you have setup per project (on average)?
            2. What kind of custom dates do you want to display?
            3. Do you think you would display more than one custom date? Could you give us any examples?

            Thanks guys!
            Sherif

            Sherif,

            • Thanks for your quick reply
            • I have attached 2 screen shots shoing our use of Versions and the Calendar
            • We are using Greenhopper, but the calendar we are hoping to improve the display of, is not being generated by Greenhopper

            @Matthew/Eran,
JIRA does not have the concept of version start date. How are you getting this? Are you using GreenHopper and referring to sprint start date? If so, that is a nice suggestion, but a different feature request. Let me know what you meant by this.

            Atlassian,

. we need to have the full duration of the "version" presented on the calendar, e.g. if "version" start date = 8/15 and end date = 8/17, then I like a bar to show on the calendar from 8/15 to 817 (3 days long).

            Thanks

This is highly desired functionality in order to provide a system outage calendar.
The JIRA Calendar Plugin provides issues as all-day events; the desire is for specific times in the day when things are happening, which requires defining custom Date/Time fields.
