You are currently using terms such as page, news, and labels to describe the sections of the Confluence software. The terminology fits but is not what is most widely accepted on the internet. It would be nice if there were variables for all of these terms that could be changed in one configuartion file. That way a user could use wiki, blog, and tags if they prefer. (Or favorites and colors )

It would only require the change of the velocity pages but would add a lot of flexibility and allow for easier theme creation and maintenence.

[CONFSERVER-4885] Variables to change terminology on Velocity Pages

            Jerry,

I believe this is more an Internationalization [1] issue rather then an issue with themes and variables. As soon as we get to Internationalize Confluence, it will be possible to change the terms like pages or news in whatever terms you prefer by modifying a couple of property files.

I'll close this as a duplicate of the Internationalization. Please let me know if you need it to be reopened for some reason.

            Cheers,
            Jens

            Dan,

Here is our problem. We have just made a custom theme for
Confluence 2.0. The main things we have changed are the terminology so
that our thousands of users can relate your product to the already
popular terms on the internet. We feel that the product will be more
widely embraced by using internet accepted terminology.

This being said, every time you release a new version of
Confluence, we have to figure out what additions you have made to the
interface and modify our theme to conform. Also, any other user who has
created a custom theme would have to perform the same actions. Our Human
Computer Interface team feel that the left navigation theme is a very
straight forward and easy to understand interface. If you enhance the
already existing themes to use a configuration file for the changes I
propose then all the user community would have to do when a new version
came out is put in their own config file.

I'm curious, how will this add flexibility to the theming? And how will this ease our maintenance? I just dont see it...
